How to prove your records at a roadside check (56 days)

You must be able to present the records for the current day and the previous 56 days. What counts, and what if your card does not hold all of that?

Today + the previous 56 days

Since 31 December 2024, at a check you must be able to show the records for the current day and the previous 56 days. It used to be 28 days.

This covers:

  • your driver card;
  • printouts you made (e.g. when your card is defective or in case of a deviation);
  • record sheets, if you drove with an analogue tachograph during that period;
  • manual entries you made.

What if your card does not hold all the days?

Older driver cards sometimes do not have enough memory for the full 56 days. The European Commission has clarified that it does not matter how you show the data, as long as you can show it. For example:

  • your employer sends you the downloaded data digitally; or
  • you carry printouts for the missing days.

Arrange this in advance with your employer, not only during the check.

Days when you did not drive

Were you sick, on leave, or driving a vehicle that falls outside the scope of the Regulation? These days must also be accounted for. You do this through manual entry on your card when you insert it (rest or other work). Some countries also accept a certificate of activities from your employer. Check which one your employer uses.
